Comedy in a “Post-Racial” World

I’ve always wondered how Americans’ sense of humor will change since Barack Obama has become president.  After all, so many of the jokes in comedic lexicon center around racial differences and stereotypes.

So then I saw this, and realized we havent’ really gone too far.  I find it hilarious.

  1. That was funny.

Stereotyping will always be part of comedy. And it wasn’t just the black man stereotype being ‘assessed’. It was also about the dumb blond stereotype.

All of a sudden, I can’t get the Ave. Q song out of my head – “everybody’s a little bit racist, somehow…”

But in order for comedy to work, we always have to tap on collective assumptions – in short, stereotype.

This is funny… I too being a big dog in NYC get people who are afraid of me without even knowing me. Some will even walk across the street to avoid me, yea I’m a 103lb lab, but Im sweet and trained…but one day, one day I may want to be a bad boy….
